If gravitational waves found? – Sydsvenskan

The fact that the scientists at Ligo, Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory, called a press conference today where they reportedly “provide an update” concerning the search for gravitational waves, has got space fans to believe that Krauss really been on to something.

Gravitational waves are sometimes described as one of the “holy Grails of astronomy” but has never been real. If it turns out that Ligo found strong signals, it is said to provide “a new window on the universe.” Maria Sundin compare with what we have previously been able to observe space with the help of various discoveries telescope, radio waves and gamma rays.

– Can we get information from gravitational waves, we get another powerful tool to study the universe. Each new instrument has meant that we have found new things that you could not even imagine before, says Sundin.

Researchers at previous occasions erroneously believed that they found the waves, including two years ago.

– then it turned out that there was dust in the Milky Way. Gravitational waves are very difficult to find, that’s why no one has done it yet, says Maria Sundin.

At 16.30 day, Swedish time, know if we can once again be a case of scientists believe they have seen them.
