Göran Marby on to become head of ICANN – New Technology

As late as October 2015 extended the government Goran Marbys mandate as Director General of PTS, the Swedish National Post and Telecom Agency by three years.

But last Monday asked Göran Marby dismissal from the post after he offered the top job the CEO of ICANN (ICANN).

the international organization is tasked with the responsibility for the basic functions of the Internet – such as the work on IP addresses and domain name system. ICANN has thus, for example, has overall responsibility for top-level domains like .com.

In the middle of May is now planning Göran Marby to start his new job at ICANN’s headquarters in the district of Playa Vista in Los Angeles in the United States.

formally the government has not yet formally accepted his resignation but informally, the parties agree. It told Göran Marby on a conference call for journalists ICANN organization on Monday evening.

While Göran Marby taking over the helm from ICANN’s current CEO Fadi Chehade is a big change regarding ICANN at once.

the US trade partment, which today has ultimate control over the so-called IANA functions (IP address allocation, domain structure and operation of the Internet’s central root servers), has announced its readiness to hand over control mechanisms for ICANN. The handover is expected to take place this September in the year.

The US submission is expected to have strong symbolic importance for the States of the United Nations criticized the American power holding, and instead called for the UN to control the Internet.

Sweden’s government in the international context clearly gone against the UN route and intergovernmental solutions, and instead strongly advocated a diversity solution where different parties are involved in determining the development of the Internet.

Yesterday at the press conference marked Goran Marby clear that he is a strong supporter of multi-party solution, and that he would also work out in the broad international Internet environment.

a strong commitment to diversity solution was one of requirements for the top job, also revealed ICANN Chairman Steve Crocker yesterday.

at the same time asked the journalist and Pulitzer prize-winner Joe White a question about Goran Marbys management style, which, according to what he heard from the Swedish side is characterized by lack of transparency. This was rejected by Marby.

On PTS’s Press Office states, however today to Göran Marby agreed with his new employer about not giving more interviews about his new job until after he assumed in May. Press officers of ICANN confirms Ny Teknik that is the case.
