Renault and Mitsubishi parts elbilsplattform with the Nissan – New Technology

By all three parts of the development costs for the new version of the Nissan Leaf, the all-electric cars become as cheap as their fossildrivna counterparts.

In its current version costs the Nissan Leaf – the world’s best-selling all-electric car – over 300 000 sek in Sweden. In Japan, it costs from 2.8 million yen (about 220 000 sek). Nissan’s goal is that the next version should cost around two million yen (just under 170 000 sek) in Japan, according to japanese newspaper Nikkei Asian Review.

This shall be achieved by sharing the development costs with Renault and Mitsubishi, which are included in the same group as Nissan. From 2018, Renault and Mitsubishi, do not work with their own platforms, but all three companies will be using the new Leaf-platform as Nissan is expected to launch on the on the IT trade fair CES in the US next month.

Even the batteries and engines will be shared, in order to reduce the cost through the purchases from common suppliers.
