Finnish city in the campaign to get Tesla’s european Gigafactory – when wake up … – IDG.see

In the summer was inaugurated Tesla’s huge factory for lithium-ion batteries, also known as the Gigafactory, in Nevada. A gigantic investment that should have cost brand of five billion dollars, and is expected to create 6 500 jobs when it is completed in 2020.

Spain and France have already offered the Tesla factory, and the Dutch finance minister, Henk Kamp, has said that the country’s government is trying to persuade Tesla to choose their country.

But at the side of the large countries have now also Finland, and specifically the Finnish city of Vaasa, has embarked in the race.

“Vasa energikluster and Tesla have a common goal; to get the world to move more rapidly towards sustainable energy. We have excellent opportunities to be Tesla’s partner and the establishment of the Gigafactory in Europe,” says Tomas Häyry, mayor of Vaasa, Vasabladet.

With its 67 000 inhabitants Vaasa is no metropolis, but the city hopes that the close proximity to the Kaustby, with the largest presence of lithium, to speak for them.

the Actual the idea to petition for a Gigafactory in Vaasa originally come from the private hold, but the plan has received support from the higher place.

“this is a great opportunity for the whole of Finland, I am very enthusiastic about the project. I will, for my part, supporting the project as much as possible,” says Mika Lintilä, prospective minister of economic affairs and the Finnish member of parliament, to Vasabladet.

Vasa has, among other things, started a special website for the campaign, the gigafactory.fi. It remains to be seen what Swedish cities who engage in the fight, or if we leave a walk over to the finns.
