Different cultures in pre – Sveriges Radio

But when preschool teachers documenting children’s development, they focus not always on what the kids actually learned, but more on how the children behave, showing the researcher, Eva M Johansson, in her thesis at Gothenburg university.


She also noticed that it was different behaviors honoured at the two preschools she studied.

” I call them uppförandekultur and culture of dialogue. In a culture of dialogue, the focus is on specific parts of a child’s behaviour: to behave in the right way. In a culture of dialogue, the focus is more on children’s participation and imagination and creativity, ” says Eva M Johansson.

” I absolutely believe that there are advantages with a uppförandekultur. There is an important balance to have as a teacher, between to teach children how to behave and to invite children to develop the abilities to negotiate.
