Finally!!! Now it is possible to run Slack on the Commodore 64 – IDG.see

The modern office is flexible, more or less packed down in the bag and most of all – all communication goes through the co-operation programmes. As hajpade Slack. If you for some reason sitting with a Commodore 64, well then, it has been difficult to latch on to the trend. Even if it is possible to argue that working on a C64 maybe not so trend-conscious. Anyway.

Now is the problem solved. And it’s thanks to a Raspberry Pi – so clear! And Jeff Harris, software engineer and hobbyists, who cobbled it all together.

On the C64 is a general port, which from the beginning was intended to connect various accessories such as modems and printers, called Userport. There linked Jeff Harris a Raspberry Pi via a hemmasnickrad cable with usb jack at one end and userport connection in the other.

the Application for the C64:an he wrote in 6502 Assembly, and it uses the ROM function in the built-in operating system Kernal to read and write, and refresh the screen. On the pie was the code in NodeJS, that works with the api for the tickers in the Slack. For the in detail to see the code and how he went about it can be read on his blog.

judging by the videos with a demo that he uploaded seems to both channels and private messages work. So also the function of the Slacks of different keyboard shortcuts. Whether the heads on Slack think this is a good idea or a complete disaster to Jeff Harris not to go into that.

the Question you want to ask now is that the mechanics use on the Polish bilverkstaden will bet on the Slack for his old dusty C64.
