Among the customers who are caught out there is a journalist and a self-employed person.

– This is an event we take very seriously. We have an internal investigation in the time since a few weeks back, writes Jessica Wallin, corporate communications officer at Elgiganten, in a comment to the News agency Siren that StockholmDirekt describe.

"A veritable catastrophe"

A journalist in London who bought a computer in August, has discovered that sensitive data has become exposed to other datakunder.

– It is a veritable disaster, and it feels absolutely terrible that this material could be on the loose in this way, she writes in a notification to the data Inspection board.

Elgiganten has been in close contact with the relevant customers, according to Jessica Wallin:

– Common for customers is that they bought a computer in one of our department stores and then also decided to buy a premium service which among other things means that we can move information from the old computer to the new one. We have very clear procedures for how this work should be done, but in these cases they have made mistakes due to human error.

Checked each other’s documents

Three of the affected customers have met and have together, and looked at their computers.

They have been able to observe that they could see the photos, invoices, business documents, cv and other private documents from each other’s computers.

the Swedish data Inspection board now wants the company describing how they saved the data information, and what they believe they have for the legal basis for the management of data content.
