Full-featured Windows 10 apps (finally) to ARM processors – PC for All

It has taken its fair share of time, but now it seems as if Microsoft’s plans that Windows 10 will work smoothly on mobile devices is on the way to be fulfilled. During today’s WinHEC event in Shenzhen, China, Microsoft has revealed that the x86 version of Windows 10 is about to be rolled out to the ARM processors, which is the kind of processor that sits in virtually every mobile device today.

As a demonstration run Windows 10 on a årsgammal Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 with 4 gb of RAM. The idea is that the x86 version will be rolled out in earnest with the launch of Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 during the next year.

It is not some simple Windows Universal applications, but if the full desktop versions of software packages like Office, Photopshop CC and Windows 10 game. According to Microsoft, should the developers not have to change anything in the applications for them to work properly.

of Course, Microsoft will invest further in UWP in the first place, then UWP-apps are both more energy-efficient, user-friendly and scalable than the x86 software – but it is fun to see that Microsoft is approaching its vision of a unified OS.

Hopefully it can also make us forget about the Microsoft Surface RT-flop four years ago, when Microsoft tried to run a (clearly inferior) version of Windows 8 on his tablet. A project that Microsoft had to put it down.
