Telia campaign to breach EU rules on an open internet – Today’s Media

the PTS stipulates that Telia’s campaign and offer free surf in breach of EU rules on an open internet. All internet traffic should be treated equally when the end-user “datatak” is achieved.

Telia’s campaign, as the hotel offer free surf on some social media, even after surfpotten come to an end, violating the EU’s rules on a free and open internet. It hit the Post and telecom agency (PTS) is firm in his decision today.

the Campaign “Hate hat” went out in the spring and the criticism wouldn’t wait. In an op-ed piece went to 27 publishers together and criticised the offer as they believe it distorts competition and threatens the freedom of the press.

Now hit the PTS to the offer in breach of the rules and constitutes an improper control command:

“the PTS has made the assessment that the traffic management that Telia applies in their offers of "Free surf on social media" (Social), and "Free surf listen" (Listen) breach of the EU regulation which says that providers of internet connectivity should treat all traffic equally on the internet. The reason is that some services or applications in these deals be excluded from the "datataket" in the subscription. When the data volume is consumed turns off all traffic except for the services and applications is included in the offer.”

– in Order to assess how deals like these affect the availability of an open internet, we need to follow developments in the market over time. In addition to reviewing specific deals on the market, this is a question of continuous work to identify and assess the factors affecting competition and access to an open internet. Our hope is that by working in this way gradually be able to give a clearer guidance on what conditions should be met for PTS to consider it necessary to intervene, ” says Emma Närvä, manager, department of electronic communications services, in a comment.
